Overview
Located in the historic city of Sucre, the constitutional capital of Bolivia, the Estadio Olímpico Patria is a multi-purpose stadium inaugurated on December 14, 1992, with a capacity of 30,700 spectators. It is situated on Avenida Jaime Mendoza, between Adolfo Vilar and Sebastián García streets, at an approximate altitude of 2,814 meters above sea level.
Purpose and Architecture
Originally, it had three stands: Preferencia (Preferred Seating), General (General Admission), and Curva Norte (North Stand). In 1997, during the Copa América, the Curva Sur (South Stand) was completed. In 2009, for the Bolivarian Games, the stadium received a modern 8-lane tartan running track, placing it among the most advanced in the country, alongside the Estadio Jesús Bermúdez.
Teams and Featured Events
- It is the home stadium of Independiente Petrolero and Universitario de Sucre, both members of the Bolivian Professional Division. Some sources mention a capacity of up to 32,000 spectators, although the most frequently cited figure is 30,700.
- It hosted matches of the 1997 Copa América and competitions during the 2009 Bolivarian Games.
Additional Infrastructure
In 2011, a large, state-of-the-art LED electronic scoreboard (17 m × 6.5 m), the second largest in Bolivia, similar to the one at the National Stadium of Chile, was installed.

The stadium is located in an area easily accessible from the center of Sucre, surrounded by monuments such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Casa de la Libertad (House of Liberty), about 1.5 km from the venue. Sucre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers an ideal cultural and architectural environment for combining sports and tourism.
